Subject: Italian film at its finest.
Italian film at its finest. Sophia is superb, drawing on her own life experiences to portray a complex, yet simple woman in the midst of war and beauty, death and love. The final act is hard to take, not for its initial brutality, though that would be enough, but for the changes that follow.

Subject: Great film, does NOT glorify violence against women
Outstanding, unforgettable, a daring film that depicts the evil of violence especially that women suffer during war. By simply following the lives of this mother and daughter we see their lives slowly dissolve into greater levels of chaos. They begin whole, and as war continues, their security, homes, friends and family get ripped away. Reduced to refugees, the fate of these two Italian women in WW II tells us the story of innocent civilians suffering the effects of war all over the world. Someone has suggested this film glorifies violence against women. Showing us the horror of violence against women does not glorify but inform the audience of what women endure and the great evil that it is. This is not a film for young people.

This is a terrible film. I deplore any movie that glorifies violence against women.

Subject: Wow!
A truly excellent and powerful movie. The best film I've seen about the plight of civilians in World War II. Sophia Loren is outstanding. Wow!

I downloaded the mpeg1 file. Video is fine, if a little dirty and missing a few frames here and there. This didn't interfere with my enjoyment. Audio is clean. It is dubbed and some sound effects are off a bit.
